{rustic wedding decor}

Beyond making our big announcement to friends and family, I really haven't done any wedding prep at all yet. Like... nothing. Minus the bridal dress fitting that my mom and sister dragged me to. And maybe a half-hearted attempt at a guest list. Besides that, all I've done is randomly pin things that I find pretty to my DIY wedding Pinterest board. But I do have one glowing "idea" of how I'd like the wedding to look, and that is rustic.

Imagine a warm hillside, bright with colors of autumn, overlooking a sweeping mountain range (and perhaps a blue lake). There's a little weathered barn nestled in the grass and glowing lanterns lighting up the trees and pathway. Strands of Christmas lights hang from the rafters. An archway with a bough of flowers rests above the rows of white chairs with colored ribbons tied to the backs. The long reception tables glow with candles, bouquets of twigs and lavender, and mis-matched mason jars. The rich color of brown is a subtle undertone to the bright greens of the ceremony. The signs are carved from wood. The table runners are burlap and lace. My shoes are emerald.

Ok, so maybe I don't have $20,000 to throw at this beautiful vision (and why would I?! Personally I would almost rather skip the wedding and spend $20,000 on the greatest honeymoon adventure known to man -- 6 month European backpack, here we come!!) but it's fun to dream, right? Besides, the "rustic" theme totally lends itself to DIY crafty magic (and dare I say... Etsy inspired?), and I'm determined to see how awesome I can make it without breaking the bank. But Pinterest seems to be my haven lately for creating my own beautiful mood boards....

Tanner, meanwhile, would be totally content with a Harry Potter themed wedding.

  1. A rustic wedding sounds amazing and you'll be surprised at what you can achieve when you put your mind to it!

    We were engaged for a whole year before I even started thinking about setting a date and planning the wedding. I guess that was probably because we had already been together for 8 years so it was kinda just making it 'official'. We went for a traditional wedding, in a 100 year old church, with a modern reception dinner at the top of a hotel over looking the city on one side and the pacific ocean on the other. It was lucky that we had inside venues because it actually rained a little on the day which was typical of NZ weather!

  2. We can totally make all this happen (and for much less than $20,000)! It's going to be beautiful and I can't wait to see it all come together.
