{sunny backpacking}

Tanner and I are going backpacking in Bend this week to escape the hazy, oppressive rain that has been plaguing Portland lately. Apparently once you leave the valley and escape the Cascade rain shadow, everywhere else in Oregon is high desert and sunny all the time. Who knew?

For the last few week we have been getting ready for our mini-vacation. Those of you who know me know I can be a bit of a control freak. Poor Tanner loves trying to surprise me with stuff, but the minute he hints at something, I freak out. I hate surprises. It's one of those annoying quirks about me. So when he wanted to plan the backpacking trip all by himself, of course I got this nervous twitch that threatened for a week to give me a complex. I mean, planning is half the fun of the trip... right??

Long story short, my incessant pleading and begging finally wore down his resolve (it's one of my super powers), and now his "planning privileges have been revoked," as he likes to tell people. On Friday the conversation went something like this:

Me: I have the day off, so let me know what you need to get ready for the trip.
Tanner: I don't understand.
Me: I mean, you're working and I'm free, so I thought I'd help you take care of packing, or getting ready, or whatever.
Tanner: Wait, you're packing today? But we don't leave until Wednesday...
Me: Yeah, but I don't want to wait until the last minute.
Tanner: Why? I was just going to throw everything together the night before.
Me: The night before! But what if we realize we're missing something? Or something goes wrong? Or something changes last minute?! What would we dooooo?!
Tanner: Yeah... I'm not really worried about it.
Me: (Eye starts twitching maniacally)

This is what happens when a Type A Personality tries to date a Type B Personality.
(I bet you can't guess which one I am.)

Needless to say, I worked up a rough draft on Xcel of our packing list, methodically went through it to make sure we were prepared, researched the area, water sources, campsites, and hazards, printed maps and info, and sorted our camping gear by necessity and weight.
Meanwhile, Tanner raised his level rank in Halo Reach.
Gotta love that boy. ;)

So, long story short: I'm going on hiatus this week! I'll be back at some point next week (if I can force myself out of the wilderness and back into the office, that is....)
In the meantime, stop by to see the lovely Miss Julie Ann -- I'm a sponsor on her blog this month!
